Counselling skills
Relational practice, communication and the thoughtful use of counselling skills.
Mallinder CounsellingCounselling education & training
I offer clear, thoughtful and engaging training for people who are developing their counselling skills and practice.
My approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in the belief that meaningful learning includes trying things, getting them wrong, reflecting and trying again.
I want people to feel able to ask questions, test ideas and be honest about uncertainty. Mistakes are not something to hide; handled with care and responsibility, they can become some of our most useful teachers.
“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.”
Samuel Beckett, Worstward Ho (1983)
I have experience teaching counselling at introductory and foundation levels. I am also a BACP accredited counsellor, a qualified clinical supervisor and hold a Level 3 teaching qualification.
My degree in English Literature and master’s in Creative Writing also inform the way I teach. My strength is making complicated ideas understandable without flattening their nuance, using language and creative approaches to connect theory with the situations people meet in real practice.
I am developing CPD, workshops and guest teaching for counselling students, practitioners, training providers and organisations. Sessions can be shaped around the needs, experience and context of the group.
Relational practice, communication and the thoughtful use of counselling skills.
Learning from uncertainty, mistakes and the moments that stretch us.
Practical, realistic approaches to sustaining yourself in caring work.
Accessible ways to explore experience, including writing and concrete poetry.
I have created and delivered focused teaching sessions on self-care and on creative uses of media, including concrete poetry. My independent programme of CPD is now developing from this experience.
